Power BI Snax

While administering the Power BI implementation I assembled, I decided to begin educating my users towards a bit of self-service.  It took a little time to decide the exact path to follow, which turned out to be simply writing about it.

My goal was to offer a simple learning path for my 75 or so end users, who had very little experience beyond basic Excel, in an effort to help them become more familiar with what I perceive as a better alternative to that often clunky and awkward application.  For me, Excel is the equivalent of Lotus 1-2-3.  It was good for its time, but that time has passed.

The result is series of short articles dubbed "Power BI Snacks."  I had no idea that someone else had already started a similar series, until about half-way along. However, those articles, written by Mina Saad, are geared towards a bit more advanced user though.  Admittedly, I hijacked a few of his graphics, but none of his snacks; all are my own.

Listed below are the 20 distinct lessons that walk a user through the basics of creating a simple report in the Power BI Service.  They are published here under the Power BI tag, as will future "snax," which are then re-posted over to my Storyline in Microsoft Teams.

  1. Starting off with Power BI Online
  2. Power BI Terms
  3. Power BI Side Bar
  4. Report Data Import
  5. Simple Table Visual
  6. Report Data Refresh
  7. Report Date Display
  8. Theme Change
  9. Sorting
  10. Table Visual Style
  11. Report and Semantic Model Naming
  12. The SUM Function
  13. Report Question
  14. Card Visual
  15. Chart Visual
  16. Formatting Report Visuals
  17. Report Filtering Optionsl
  18. Report Titling
  19. Formulas and Calculations
  20. Mobile Layout
Again, there will likely be more.  This is just the core of creating a report in Power BI Online aka Power BI Service.  Most other things can be discerned from this or just poking about in there.

Any feedback is welcome.
